Carver STEAM Academy (Carver STEAM) is proud to announce that among the 17 Atlanta Public Schools (APS) with graduating classes, Carver STEAM earned the largest improvement in graduation rate compared to 2020.
What do Kamala Harris, Colin Kaepernik, John Lewis, George Washington Carver and Barack and Michelle Obama have in common? They are titans of Black excellence in their respective fields. A recent CDC study showed that providing children who have experienced trauma with supportive, nurturing relationships can help prevent the long lasting effects of childhood trauma. A large percentage of students in south Atlanta have experienced childhood trauma, so Purpose Built Schools partnered with COR, an organization that offers social-emotional support programming to trauma-impacted students marginalized by poverty and race-based educational inequities.
Atlanta’s partnership with Purpose Built Schools broke new ground for both APS and Georgia. Jovan Miles, principal of Thomasville Heights Elementary School, shared the benefits of the partnership school model in a guest column on the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s education blog, Get Schooled.
