The Aviation Program at Carver STEAM Academy, in partnership with Tango Flight, Airbus, and Delta Airlines, encourages students to learn social and technical skills required to work in the aviation industry while building a Vans RV-12is airplane.
Delta Air Lines flew 25 Carver STEAM students on May 16, 2023 to Mobile, AL, for a field trip. For most students, this was their first time on an airplane. The trip provided students a bigger picture of what a career in aviation could look like.
During the trip, students toured Flight Works Alabama (FWA) and explored the Discovery Space Exhibit Gallery. They visited the A320 Final Assembly Line (FAL) and learned from FWA, FAL and Airbus leaders and staff.
Carver STEAM’s Aviation Program is helping students explore exciting opportunities for life after high school graduation. Students work in small groups with a mentor from Airbus or Delta, who provides technical support while also sharing experiences and life lessons. Carver STEAM students are invited into spaces they may find themselves working in the future, including the TechOps facility where Delta professionals work on all parts of airplanes in their fleet.
Students in the program are developing the skills necessary to pursue a degree in aviation maintenance. Upon graduation, they will already have contacts at Delta and Airbus as they pursue their careers.
