President, Purpose Built Schools Atlanta
Greg has served as President of Purpose Built Schools Atlanta since its formation in 2016. He has led transformational projects at the city and neighborhood levels for more than 25 years, playing diverse leadership roles in the public and nonprofit sectors. Previously, Greg served as President of Purpose Built Communities, a non-profit working with local leaders in more than 25 cities across the country to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. He also worked for the City of Atlanta in various capacities in the administration of Mayor Shirley Franklin, including Chief Operating Officer and President of the Atlanta Development Authority (now Invest Atlanta). Greg was founding executive director of the East Lake Foundation, the non-profit that developed and continues to implement a bold, innovative and successful model of community revitalization. In that role he helped form the City’s first charter school, Charles Drew Charter School. Greg is also an attorney who has worked in private practice and as an Assistant District Attorney for DeKalb County.

As Chief Academic Officer at Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, Dr. Warfield oversees all instruction, academics and curriculum initiatives. She directly supervises and coaches school instructional leaders, while also working alongside the CEO to ensure the implementation of PBSA’s model. Dr. Warfield recently completed her 22nd year as an educator, having served in both the Dekalb County School System and Newton County School System. Over the course of the past two decades, Dr. Warfield has served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. Most recently, Dr. Warfield served as the Director of Secondary Education and Professional Learning for Newton County School System. She holds an Ed.D. from Walden University, an Ed.S. and M.Ed. in educational instruction from Central Michigan University, and a B.S. in middle grade education from Fort Valley State University. Dr. Warfield has dedicated her life and career to serving youth. She founded Young Ladies of Distinction, a mentoring group that served young women seeking social, academic, and community advancement through the pursuit of academic achievement. She is also a mother of two, wife, educator, worship leader, youth mentor & tutor, and motivational speaker.

As Chief Operating Officer at Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, Jonathan oversees organizational strategy, operations, IT, HR, nutrition, and student and family support, and supports strategic efforts in other areas as needed, including talent and data. He initially joined PBSA three years ago as the Chief of Staff and a Broad Resident. Prior to joining PBSA, Jonathan was a Project Leader at the Boston Consulting Group in its education practice, where he managed a variety of projects for PK-12 and higher education organizations. Jonathan also served as the Director of Finance and Operations for Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee, where he helped launch the first high school turnaround in the state, and spent a summer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In Atlanta, he sits on the board of Drew Charter School. Jonathan holds an MBA from The Wharton School, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar, and an M.S.Ed. in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with highest distinction and highest honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration and Economics.

As Chief Financial Officer at Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, Karen oversees all financial areas, including general ledger, accounts payable, budget, grant accounting, purchasing, accounts receivable, audit, tax, grant accounting, financial reporting, and federal programs liaison. In addition, she manages human resources and payroll and is responsible for the overall financial sustainability of PBSA. She joined PBSA in 2017 as the Chief Financial Officer. She is a CPA with broad experience in all aspects of accounting and budget management. Prior to joining PBSA, Karen was an Accounting Manager at the University of Maryland in its government accounting department, where she led the accounting and budget unit. Karen also served as Financial Services Manager for St. Joseph’s Health System of Atlanta, as well as Director of Budget and member of Finance Leadership Team for Atlanta Public Schools where she managed a $652M school district operating budget and $354M capital construction budget. Karen graduated with highest distinction and honors from Johnson C. Smith University with a BS in Accounting. She is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

His approach to teaching and learning with a student centered focus supports the Purpose Built Schools Atlanta model that inquiry, innovation, and impact are foundational in creating globally competitive citizens. He brings a passion for college and career readiness that blossomed during his time as a teacher and leader at the high school level. Previously, he served as an assistant principal at the John Lewis Invictus Academy and Benjamin E. Mays High School, both Atlanta Public Schools.
